Listen
Somewhere I read it’s impossible to think while you are listening.
I can’t remember exactly where I read that, or who said it, but I know for sure when you are lost in thought, you tune out sound around you. But does it work in reverse? When you are focused on listening to sound, do you tune out your thoughts?
Here’s why I say yes, it's true…
I actually tried it out.
I went into the woods and listened to the sounds of the landscape.
The roaring crescendo of the spring wind.
The melody of bird song punctuated by a hawk’s cry.
The rustling of dried leaves under my moving feet.
The pop of a falling branch as it hits the forest floor.
The buzz of a fly zipping by.
The blowing out breath of my dog on the scent of a rabbit trail.
Yes, focus your attention on what you hear around you, and suddenly, the thought train isn’t so loud in your head.
That's when deep listening begins.
When we are able to get out from under the constant parade of thoughts, our wild, true Self can communicate and there’s a good chance we'll hear its wisdom.
Try it. This worldwide pause we’re in is a prime opportunity to tune in and listen.
What do you hear?
Forest Love,
Julie
